Key takeaways
Trading sentiment on Shenhua’s auction platform cooled noticeably on Friday as both PP and LLDPE futures on the Dalian Commodity Exchange reversed Thursday’s rebound. The renewed softness in futures dampened market confidence, leading to a sharp decline in sell-through rates across all grades compared with the previous session.
Market participants said that lower-priced LLDPE cargoes offered a day earlier had already been cleared, leaving only higher-priced lots in today’s auction, which faced limited buying interest.
“It’s not surprising that sentiment has weakened again,” a local trader said. “Most buyers yesterday only made need-based purchases rather than speculative ones.”
As the market heads into the weekend, activity has slowed further, with participants largely adopting a wait-and-see approach amid an uncertain near-term outlook. The overall tone across China’s polyolefin complex remains cautious, with no clear signal of stabilisation in sight.
