Shandong Yulong reported a slight uptick in deal activity on 11 December, driven by targeted buying interest in LLDPE film and HDPE yarn after small price reductions and a mild rebound in futures. Overall demand, however, remained weak, with most HDPE grades recording no transactions.
Sentiment at the day’s auction improved marginally as futures firmed and offer prices were lowered by CNY 40–60/ton from Tuesday. The adjustments prompted some converters who had postponed purchases to return for selective, need-based replenishment.
LLDPE film saw the strongest response, with more than half the offered volume concluded as buyers capitalised on relatively attractive prices and steady downstream demand. HDPE yarn also achieved full auction-listed sales, supported by pockets of tightness in the spot market.
By contrast, HDPE film and blow moulding grades drew no bids, underscoring the broader softness in downstream sectors and sustained caution over stock-building ahead of year-end.
A local trader said buying remained largely opportunistic rather than reflective of genuine confidence, noting that most participants were waiting for incremental price adjustments and continued to view a meaningful recovery as unlikely in the near term.
