Media: Korea's KPIC to complete cracker expansion in 2017

According to a media report, the Korea Petrochemical Ind. Co Ltd (KPIC) is aiming to complete expansion work at its Ulsan naphtha cracker by first half of 2017 and would start commercial production by 1 June 2017.

The company earlier has awarded the expansion contract to GS Engineering & Construction to increase ethylene capacity to 800,000 t/year from 490,000 t/year and aromatics capacity to 300,000 t/year from 220,000 t/year currently.

KPIC’s role in the Korean ethylene market would therefore be enhanced with the holding market share would increase to 10% from about 6% now.
