UPDATE: China's Shenghua Chemical might extend shutdown after explosion

Earlier this week, Shenghua Chemical Co Ltd informed of a shutdown at its PVC plant in Zhangjiakou, China as a precautionary measure following an explosion at a loading area next to the complex. However, the unit might need to remain off-line longer than expected, as a report from investigators showed the cause of the incident was a leakage from a VCM tank belongs to the company.
The source from the company was not available for comment at the time this report is published.
The complex houses a 200,000 tons/year PVC plant and a 400,000 tons/year caustic soda plant. The restart schedule is unsure at the moment.
