The Chinese and the USA officials met on the side-line of the G-20 meeting on 1 December and the two countries arrived in a preliminary agreement to ease the trade tension. The Chinese government promised to increase imports from the US and in exchange, the US will keep the additional tariffs on Chinese goods off the table for the next 3 months.

The two leaders would continue to discuss the issue and find ways to resolve the differences in the next 90 days. However, it is important to note that would the two countries fail to achieve an agreement by the end of the period, the previously planned tariffs might still take place.
