USA sets in motion for new tariffs on $300 billion Chinese imports

As trade tension between China and the USA escalated, the USA government is looking to introduce fresh tariffs on 3,800 products imported from China that worth USD 300 billion. These included $43.2 billion worth of smartphones and $37.5 billion worth of laptop computers, according to media reports.

Many consumer products such as clothing will be subjected to the new tariffs. The full list of the 3,800 products is here.

On the list, 35 plastic products under chapter 39 in the harmonized system will be levied, including sub-article 3913, 3922, 3924, 3925 and 3926.

Although there has not been any confirmation on the implementation date, however, the USTR on its portal said that a public hearing would be convened on 17 June 2019.
