Haldia Petrochemical has decided to take its complex in Haldia, India off-stream following a major fire on 20 September 2019 that injured 15 people. Previously, sources with the knowledge to the incident informed that the fire occurred at a pipeline and did not damage the cracker.

Industry sources estimated the plant might remain shut for at least two weeks to carry out necessary inspections and repairs. However, the company has not made any official announcement regarding the duration of the shutdown.  

The plant houses a cracker with an annual capacity of 676,000 tons/year of ethylene and 350,000 tons of propylene. Downstream units include a 370,000 tons/year HDPE/LLDPE swing units, a standalone 330,000 tons/year HDPE and a 340,000 tons/year PP unit. All are offline at the time this report is published.
