Indonesia’s PT Asahimas Chemical reportedly announced fresh expansion plan at their newly expanded vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) line by 2018, market sources said.

The company aims to add another 100,000 tons/year of VCM to its existing production, lifting total output to 900,000 tons/year once the expansion project is completed in 2018. PT Asahimas Chemical completed the first expansion plan in late Q4 2015, which doubled the company’s PVC and VCM capacity to 600,000 tons/year and 800,000 tons/year respectively. Caustic soda output was also increased to 700,000 tons/year.

A source close to the company said output from the expanded VCM line shall be used as feed for its own downstream PVC production, and the excess quantity shall be dedicating to Phu My Plastics and Chemicals Co Ltd (PT Asahimas Chemical’s consolidated subsidiary in Vietnam) as well as other Southeast Asian customers.
