Thailand’s PTT unexpectedly faces production issues due to power outage

It is reported that PTT Global Chemical Public Co Ltd has unexpectedly shut down one of its olefins crackers in Map Ta Phut last night, 23 December 2019 due to an outage at an external utility supplier. The cracker has an annual capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene.

The company is currently assessing the impact of the incident and the duration of the shutdown.

Meanwhile, downstream units including LLDPE, LDPE, glycol, and phenol are now operating at reduced rates until the upstream cracker resumes normal operation.

A source close to the company said that the scheduled shutdown in January 2020 is still in effect.
