Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) – an affiliate of Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries (ORPIC) has completed the construction works at its new petrochemical complex in Sohar and currently operating on the trial basis.

According to market sources, the company has started up the HDPE unit in early June 2020. Although there are some off-grade HDPE injection cargoes available, it is uncertain if the line has reached on-spec at the time of this report.

The new plant houses an 880,000 tons/year steam cracker adjacent to the existing refinery. Downstream units include an LLDPE line with an annual capacity of 440,000 tons/year, a 440,000 tons/year HDPE line, and a 300,000 tons/year PP plant.

Market sources are expecting to see the first prime grade parcels from the producer in July 2020.
