According to market sources, Nova Chemical was forced to take off two of its LLDPE units in Alberta, Canada off-stream on 13 July 2020 due to persistent technical issues. There are no clear indications of how long the company would take to bring the plant online.

Two LLDPE units, both are butene based, have a combined capacity of 1.1 million tons. The force majeure, however, does not affect other PE products.

The shutdown further tightens availability for this grade in North America, from which market sources are expecting price increments in the coming days.
