Formosa declared force majeure at USA based PVC, PP plants

According to market sources, Formosa Plastics Corp has issued a force majeure on its PP output from the Point Comfort plant due to “unexpected operational difficulties” on 8 August 2020. The plant has an annual capacity of 822,000 tons/year.
Meanwhile, the producer has also declared force majeure on PVC supplies from two of its plants in the USA citing the difficulties to restart the upstream 736,000 tons/year chlor-alkali unit after the maintenance work since mid-June.
The force majeure took effect on 14 August 2020 at the 800,000 tons/year Point Comfort PVC plant and the 470,000 tons/year Baton Rouge facility.
It is unclear at the moment when would these units come back online.
The company’s 630,000 tons/year cracker at Point Comfort also has been shut since March.
