Chinese LDPE Market Faces Correction

The Chinese LDPE film market has entered a correction phase as the ongoing demand from the agricultural film sector and reduced domestic supply fail to uphold previous price gains. Spot offers plunged from the previous week, weighed down by deteriorating buyer confidence and mounting economic headwinds.

According to data from CommoPlast, average spot LDPE film prices on an EXW China basis declined by CNY 200/ton ($28/ton). Cargoes positioned at the upper end of the price range encountered the most resistance, reflecting a market increasingly wary of inflated valuations.

Despite securing essential volumes, buyers have adopted a more defensive purchasing strategy, largely steering clear of cargoes priced above the CNY 10,000/ton threshold to mitigate downside risks. The cautious sentiment, if it persists, could impact trading sentiment in the import market.

Indonesia’s LLDPE film Market Trends Downward

Indonesia’s local LLDPE film market extended its downtrend, softening by IDR 100,000/ton ($6/ton) this week, bringing total losses to IDR 350,000/ton ($21/ton) since late February. The downturn was partly attributed to slower purchasing from medium and large-scale buyers, who had largely completed pre-Eid al-Fitr restocking.

Smaller-scale converters drove most transactions this week, securing last-minute replenishments ahead of the holiday season. However, the purchases made were miniscule and constituted limited market support.
