PET hit multi-month lows amid upstream selloff in China

China's PET bottle market slid to multi-month lows this week as a violent selloff across PX and PTA futures on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange dissolved the cost-support structure underpinning domestic and export pricing. A thin technical rebound late in the week did little to restore confidence, with domestic offers breaching a key psychological floor and export quotes falling sharply as international buyers cited crude oil volatility and unresolved Middle East geopolitical risk as grounds to stay on the sidelines.

North American PE cargoes surfacing widely as global price correction deepens

North American PE cargoes under trader packaging emerged widely across Southeast Asian markets this week, with offers observed across multiple regions from at least four trading houses currently inviting bids. The cargoes have appeared roughly two months earlier than in previous years, when similar shipments typically surfaced in August, a sign that traders are keen to secure deals ahead of an August last-shipment deadline as the global polymer price correction accelerates their push into the region.
