Fourth consecutive hike by a major Taiwanese major widens gap with market acceptance

A major Taiwanese PVC producer has extended its price increases into a fourth consecutive round, with India again receiving the steepest hike of $25/ton as October-loading offers climb to multi-month highs. Yet the continued hikes are meeting growing resistance, as widening premiums over competing Asian cargoes undermine the producer’s competitiveness and test buyers’ willingness to accept further hikes.

The gap between offers and actual transactions continues to widen as weak downstream demand and cheaper alternatives from China and ASEAN limit buying interest. Reduced operating rates and tighter spot availability have helped the producer defend its pricing strategy, but translating higher offers into concluded business remains a challenge.

Notable LLDPE buying in China puts re-export margins to the test

A Saudi-origin LLDPE film grade bucked the broader trend in China’s import PE market, with aggressive buying pushing prices above $1,400/ton for the first time since the Iran war escalated in early April. The unusual rally stood out against subdued demand for competing cargoes, raising questions about what made this particular grade so attractive to buyers.

The answer lies in shifting regional trade flows out of China rather than its domestic demand alone. Disruptions to Middle Eastern shipments have created opportunities for Chinese traders to redirect cargoes to neighbouring markets, but a narrowing price gap is now putting the economics of this trade under pressure.

With a key Saudi producer preparing to announce its November offers, the next move could reshape re-export opportunities and test whether regional buyers are willing to absorb another round of increases.
