Taiwanese PVC producer's sixth November hike meets buyer resistance amid weak demand

A major Taiwanese PVC producer has raised its November export offers across Asia for a seventh consecutive round, but buyers remain reluctant to accept higher prices amid persistent weak end-product demand and more competitive alternatives.

Buying interest has remained subdued across the region. Indian market activity has slowed ahead of Diwali, while some Southeast Asian buyers have opted to stay on the sidelines after securing cargoes last week, for a much competitive alternative.

Supply constraints in Northeast Asia continue to lend support to prices, with feedstock shortages curbing regional operating rates and limiting Chinese export availability. However, the combination of seasonal weakness, poor end-product demand and competitive offers continues to undermine the producer's ability to pass through further increases.

China's PP maintenance peaks in November as supply tightens towards year-end

China’s PP sector is moving through its heaviest maintenance window of 2026, as overlapping shutdowns at major facilities point to tighter domestic availability heading into year-end. The concentrated outages could lend some supply-side support at a time when feedstock costs are climbing, though soft downstream demand and buyers’ resistance to higher resin prices continue to cap producers’ pricing leverage.

Production losses are set to peak in November before easing into December, placing the heaviest strain on supply in the near term. Tighter prompt availability may spur pre-Lunar New Year restocking, but the return of idled capacity towards year-end could loosen supply conditions again, leaving the price outlook hinged on whether buying interest picks up.
