Iran's Bakhtar Commercial Company (BCCO) has reportedly shut its PE plants in Mahabad late last week as a result of the worsening power crunch in the country during the summer months.

The petrochemical complex houses a 300,000 tons/year LDPE line and a 300,000 tons/year LLDPE/HDPE swing plant.

According to a source close to the company, these units are expected to remain offline for about a month, hence, affecting its ability to fulfil the previously committed orders in a timely manner.

According to media reports, Iran is expected to face a shortage of electricity supply of more than 10,000 megawatt-hours this summer. Late last week, the government also shortened the working hours at government agencies to reduce electricity consumption.
