Borouge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis have officially confirmed a $6.2 billion investment to expand the Borouge 4 petrochemical complex in Ruwais, UAE. The project, once completed, would solidify the company’s position as the world's largest single-site polyolefins complex.

At the moment, Borouge 4 consists of a 1.8 million tons/year mixed feed cracker and the fifth PP unit (PP5) with an annual output of 480,000 tons/year.

The expansion will add a 1.5 million tons/year ethane cracker and two PE units with a combined capacity of 1.4 million tons/year which are slated to come online at the beginning of 2025.

Borouge owns three other complexes: Borouge 1, Borouge 2, and Borouge 3 at the same location. The expansion project would boost Borouge’s polyolefin outputs to 6.4 million tons per annum.
