UPDATE: India withheld blanket ban on single-use plastics products
Indian officials on 2 October 2019 announced that the country has held off a blanket ban on single-use plastics products, as the measure is seen too disruptive for the industry amid slowing global economy.
The government was discussing ways to outlaw six additional plastics items including plastic bags, cups, plates, small bottles, straws and certain types of sachets.
However, instead of imposing new regulations, the Indian government decided to continue enforcing the existing rules against the “storing, manufacturing and using some single-use plastic products such as polythene bags and Styrofoam.”
