India’s LG Polymers shuts plant after gas leakage

A gas leakage occurred during the early hours on 7 May 2020 at the polystyrene (PS) plant belong to LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd kills at least 11 and injured hundreds of others. 

The leakage reportedly took place at a styrene monomer (SM) tank when the company attempted to restart the plant following a mandatary shutdown since 25 March 2020 to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. 

At the time of this report, the complex has been shut. It houses a 180,000 tons/year of PS and 35,000 tons/year of expandable PS (EPS). The restart date is uncertain.
