Malaysia widened the scope on ADD investigation on import PET

It is reported that the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has initiated an anti-dumping investigation on the import of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins on 28 July 2020. The scope of the investigation has however widened to cover more trading countries, including China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, the United States of America, and Vietnam. 

The government launched the investigation following the petition from a major domestic producer Recron (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd claiming injury, such as “reduction in market share, decline in sales, price undercutting, price depression, price suppression, reduction in actual production and cash flow and reduction in return on investment.”

In 2015, the Malaysian government imposed anti-dumping duties (ADD) on import PET originating from China, Indonesia, and South Korea, ranging between 2.87% and 14.91%. The ADD expired on 14 March 2020 after five years of implementation.
