Indonesia’s state-own oil and gas company – Pertamina is in the progress of restarting the Balongan refinery after the fire incident that occurred on 29 March 2021 that injured at least five and forced the company to shut the entire complex.

The main crude distillation unit (CDU) has been up running since 5 April 2021, according to the company.

The company aims to bring both propylene crackers with a combined capacity of 440,000 tons/year at the site online by 14 April. However, sources said that Polytama Propindo might not be able to immediately restart its 380,000 tons/year PP plant at the adjacent location until Pertamina stabilizes operating rates at the propylene units.

Pertamina supplies propylene to Polytama Propindo via pipelines, which were also taken offline during the incident as a precautionary measure.
