TODAY’S DEVELOPMENTS

PP & PE · INDONESIA

Downward pressure in ASEAN PP as crude retreat and

Domestic polyolefin prices in Indonesia fell broadly opening the week, with HDPE grades absorbing the sharpest cuts after a short-lived producer attempt to steady the market collapsed under renewed competitive pressure from regional indent offers. For PP, yarn and injection grades were similarly marked down, but the reductions drew little buying response as converters held back on expectations of further softening into July. The LLDPE film segment paints the starkest picture: despite a comparatively modest list price reduction, the producer's official level remains far above the cash distribution market and even further above import offer levels from competing origins, a gap that could be untenable for sellers.

With secondary market traders actively clearing inventory at steep discounts and forward import curves establishing significantly lower price floors, producer-direct procurement remains uncompetitive for buyers.

India reaches decision on anti-dumping duty for Chinese bottle-grade PET

India's government has reached a decision on its anti-dumping duty on bottle-grade PET resin from China, with implications for Chinese exporters targeting one of Asia's most active packaging markets. The move follows a sunset review in which authorities found that dumping and injury margins remain both positive and substantial, and assessed what removal of the duty would mean for the flow of discounted volumes into the market.

The notification's scope addresses material manufactured in China regardless of shipping route and resin exported from Chinese ports regardless of declared origin, closing off intermediary-routing strategies that have historically complicated enforcement.
